Frequently Asked Questions

Satellite Format Courses

Do I need to have an ultrasound system to attend?

No, you do not need an US system to attend any of the sponsored course locations. The Prometheus Group has agreed to sponsor our courses and provide US units for hands-on practice during the labs at each of our host and satellite locations.

Do I need experience with ultrasound imaging to take this course?

No, this is an entry-level ultrasound course that is designed for clinicians who are considering incorporating RUSI into their practice as well as those who are just getting started with their own RUSI equipment.

What is the instructional level?

The course is entry-level for rehabilitative ultrasound imaging but progresses to advanced ultrasound concepts such as M-mode and transperineal imaging. The material is intermediate level for pelvic health and lumbopelvic rehabilitation.

Are there any training requirements or certifications to perform rehabilitative ultrasound imaging?

There are no training requirements for physical therapists to perform RUSI in the US, and the majority of Canada. EchoGen Seminars has chosen to follow the guidelines for training outlined by Whittaker et al., 2019.

Are there any registration prerequisites?

A solid working knowledge of the muscles of local control (the core) is required. These concepts are integral to this work and will be referenced throughout the course but will not be taught as a part of the curriculum. Prior experience with pelvic health is required to participate in the transperineal labs as a clinician.

Are there any internal labs?

No, there are three transperineal imaging labs for people with both female and male anatomy which do not include intracavity palpation. Pelvic health training is required to participate in the transperineal labs as a clinician. Orthopedic therapists may observe the transperineal labs and are encouraged to stay for the duration of the course.

What is a satellite format course?

Satellite format courses offer access to a national-level instructor for live, lectures and interaction but limit travel requirements for students. The primary instructor will broadcast remotely from the Host Site with students in attendance. Any students may choose to travel to the host location. Satellites and pods will receive the broadcast via Zoom and have a qualified teaching assistants present during the course to answer questions and assist with hands-on learning during the labs.

What are my options for attending the course?

Host location: The instructor will be teaching in person from this location and broadcasting with cameras via Zoom to remote participants during the course.

Satellite location: The lectures will be broadcast to the satellite facility with qualified teaching assistants in attendance for a limited number of registrants

Self-hosted pod: Clinicians who have access to ultrasound equipment and a minimum of six months of imaging experience can create a learning pod of two or more participants at a private location. Clinicians without the required experience need to have an approved TA to assist with the labs. If only one student is attending they will need to arrange for a non-clinician body model to scan during labs. Check the course schedule for lab times.

Why can’t I Self-Host this course?

Self-hosting is limited to clinicians who own or have access to ultrasound equipment and have been using it for a minimum of six months. While we appreciate independence, experience has taught us that clinicians self-hosting without experience or the assistance of an experienced teaching assistant have been frustrated and unhappy with the outcome.

How can I find a TA to assist a self-hosted pod?

If you have access to ultrasound equipment and wish to create a self-hosted pod, we may be able to connect you with a qualified teaching assistant. If you know an experienced clinician who is willing to assist your pod, contact us to review their qualifications.

How many students can attend a self-hosted pod?

Attendance numbers are determined by ultrasound equipment. All locations are required to maintain no greater than a 4 to 1 ratio of students per ultrasound unit.

I have ultrasound experience and want to take the course but am not a beginner?

Clinicians who have experience with ultrasound imaging, don't feel the need to take an entry-level course but want to improve their skills are encouraged to organize a self-hosted pod and recruit participants for their location. With four paid registrants, a qualified pod organizer can potentially serve as the pod TA based on their experience and knowledge. This allows them to audit the course receiving all materials and CEUs in exchange for their time and energy but is approved on a case-by-case basis. All TA compensation is based on experience.

Will I need to arrange for a body model for the labs?

All participants should be prepared to participate as both clinician and model. While it would be ideal to have an equal number of people with male and female anatomy as course participants, that rarely is the case. Site hosts will attempt to arrange for at least one cisgender male body model, but that may be as a demonstration only and not a guarantee of allowing for practice. It is advised that participants who live locally recruit partners, friends, current patients or colleagues to serve as models for the transperineal lab for male anatomy. Any participant who is operating as a sole student will need to arrange for people with male and female anatomy to model for the duration of the course. See the course schedule for lab times.

Will I be able to ask questions during the course?

Yes, your instructor will be live and available remotely during the entire course. The instructor will be in person at the host location which is open for anyone to attend. Each of our satellite locations will be staffed with one of our experienced teaching assistants to answer questions and help with hands-on learning. In addition, we will have a virtual TA throughout the course that will monitor the chat and assist self-hosted pods in a break-out room for all labs.

Will the course manual be printed for me?

No, all of your course materials including pre-course reading, videos, and quizzes will be loaded into your teachable account 10 days prior to the live portion of the course. The manual has a large number of ultrasound images and because of the amount of black in these images, printing is often sub-optimal. Most students prefer to keep the manual in digital format so they can enlarge the images for better viewing during the course.

What is Teachable?

Teachable is the online platform we have selected to use for a remote delivery model. Registrants will use teachable to:

  • Complete all pre-course material including ultrasound terminology, several videos and with completion of a brief quiz prior to the live component of the course
  • Download course manuals and handouts
  • Access to the live portion of the course via Zoom
  • Submit a post-test
  • Complete a course evaluation
  • Access your course certificate

Do I need to create a Teachable account to register for a course?

Once you register for the course, you will automatically be enrolled in the EchoGen Portal Teachable School. We suggest using a personal email when you register for the course and using the same email to register if you have accessed EGP teachable school in the past. Always opt-in to receive emails from Teachable as this is how we will communicate with you concerning your course. We will never send promotional materials via email from EchoGen Portal.

Do I need to have a Zoom account?

Yes, all participants will need to have a Zoom login so they can complete each lecture in the series, create a free Zoom account at zoom.us

I have registered, why can't I have access to the videos and course manual now?

This course is a hybrid between live and on-demand, just like a live course, you will receive your course manual closely timed to the live course portion, with sufficient time to print it if desired but most find using the PDF of the manual on a computer a better way to view the content and multiple ultrasound images.  Experience has taught us that a 7-10 day window is optimal for providing course information to students. Those that watch the pre-recordings months in advance, and are not using RUSI find that the information grows stale. In addition, we are constantly updating the curriculum to provide the most current content in order to provide you with the best course possible.

How long will I have access to the course material?

The majority of the course material is downloadable. You will have access to course recordings for three years as long as you maintain your Teachable account.

Can more than one person view the course?

No, your account login is limited to the purchaser only and may not be shared.

How do I get my CEU certificate?

After completing 100% of the course, including the course post-test and evaluation, your certificate of completion is generated on Teachable. The course certificate is available to download as a PDF and save it to your computer or print as needed.

What is the cancellation policy?

If for any reason a student needs to cancel their attendance, they will receive a 100% course credit to use for future courses. This credit may be transferred to another student at any time.  Refunds, minus a $75.00 administrative fee, may be issued up to 14 days prior to course onset. Refunds will NOT be provided if course material has been accessed online.
